Guidance for Investors

Take a look at the picture at right. Is it fool’s gold or the real thing?

What is the one question you asked before reaching your conclusion? Without close inspection the color and shininess probably isn’t very informative. Since you can’t touch it, asking whether or not it is malleable, how hard it is, or if it smells like rotten eggs when you scratch the surface, couldn’t help you. If you chose fool’s gold, you are right. Most likely you asked yourself if you saw crystals or striations. You may not have been aware of how you knew to ask the right question, but your experience informed your decision.

This is the position you are in as an investor. You need to ask the critical question before you have invested time in your due diligence, let alone money in the venture. You are generally only given a snapshot of a business, a plan or brief outline. You can’t really touch it to determine what it will be like, how likely it is to succeed or fail. The first thing you need to do, before you invest in extensive analysis is to make the critical decision as to whether this is worth your time or not.

It is often said that the right question can be more important than right answer. This is what Barsett Consulting can do for you, early in the process of evaluating a new opportunity. We do not promise to tell you whether to invest, but will suggest the right questions to ask about new ventures in molecular medicine and diagnostics. Every new venture in this space has a solution, or "the answer”, to some critical question. The healthcare environment is rapidly changing.

In short, what Barsett will do for you is provide input in the form of key questions about a particular venture. Simply send us the information provided to you by the venture, be it a business plan, publication supporting a proof-of-principle, or presentation. Within a few business days, and for a modest set fee, you will receive a succinct summary and annotated list of critical issues that can tell you how solid the proposed venture is, whether it is based on good science, or whether when you get close to it will smell like fool’s gold.

If this makes sense to you contact Barsett now, or keep us in mind for when you receive a proposal that would benefit from the sort of evaluation we can provide.
